Saugeen Shores.
Saugeen Shores sits on the eastern shore of Lake Huron at the mouth of the Saugeen River, where Port Elgin and Southampton meet across the 8 km Saugeen Rail Trail and the continuous Lake Huron beach corridor. Chantry Island Lighthouse stands roughly 1 km offshore from Southampton, completed on 1 April 1859, accessed only by Marine Heritage Society tours under a federal Migratory Bird Sanctuary permit.
Denny's Dam Conservation Area, about 1.5 km upstream of the river mouth, is the most popular steelhead reach on the Saugeen and the anchor for fall and spring fishing on the river. MacGregor Point Provincial Park, just south of Port Elgin, runs more than 20 km of marked trails and hosts the spring Huron Fringe Birding Festival on a recognized Lake Huron migration corridor.
Two harbours within four miles of each other — Port Elgin's 268-slip marina and Southampton Harbour at the river mouth, run by the Southampton Yacht Club and the Chesley Street Docking Committee — anchor the open-water sailing scene. Saugeen Shores sits on the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation; the Saugeen First Nation Pow Wow runs the second weekend of August at the Saugeen Amphitheatre.

Walking & Strolling
A continuous Lake Huron shore corridor links Port Elgin and Southampton: from Port Elgin Main Beach and Shipley Beach north along the Waterfront Trail to Southampton Main Beach and South Street Beach. The boardwalks and shore path connect the two town centres, and the Saugeen Rail Trail's stone-dust surface offers an inland alternative through forested town parkland. Lake Huron's open western horizon is the local sunset draw, and the corridor stays walkable into late shoulder season.

MacGregor Point Provincial Park, just south of Port Elgin, runs more than 20 km of marked trails — the 3.5 km Tower Trail through the park interior, the Huron Fringe Boardwalk over Turtle Pond and Ash Swamp — and has recorded more than 200 bird species on a recognized Lake Huron flyway, with the spring Huron Fringe Birding Festival as the year's highlight. Offshore, Chantry Island Migratory Bird Sanctuary draws colonial nesting waterbirds; access for visitors is by Marine Heritage Society tour only.

The Saugeen Rail Trail runs 8 km on the former CN line between Concession 6 south of Port Elgin and the corner of Grosvenor and Adelaide Streets in Southampton, with a hard-packed stone-dust surface. Looped back along the Lake Huron shoreline via the North Shore Road, the popular ride extends to 25–30 km. Saugeen Shores is also a designated community on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, which carries paved waterfront cycling along the open Lake Huron shore through both town centres.

Port Elgin Harbour holds 268 slips and moorings with fuel, a launch ramp, electricity, pump-out, and a sand beach next door — a developed Lake Huron public marina. Four miles north, Southampton Harbour sits at the mouth of the Saugeen River, with sail slips run by the Southampton Yacht Club and powerboat slips by the Chesley Street Docking Committee. Open Lake Huron sailing runs straight off both harbours, and the river mouth at Southampton gives sheltered access for smaller boats.

Southampton Main Beach is the long sand stretch on Lake Huron at the river mouth, fringed by a rare dune-grass shoreline that the town has worked to keep intact. Port Elgin Main Beach pairs sand with a boardwalk, splash pad, and harbour amenities at the south end of town; Shipley Beach and South Street Beach round out the municipal beach inventory. Lake Huron's western exposure draws swimmers, paddlers, and sunset crowds, and the inland water warms enough by mid-summer for sustained shoreline swimming.

Denny's Dam Conservation Area sits about 1.5 km upstream of the Saugeen River mouth and includes roughly 1.5 km of river frontage; the "Lower Main" reach below the dam is the most popular steelhead water on the Saugeen, with Chinook, Coho, brown trout, smallmouth bass, walleye, muskie, and catfish in the wider system. Fishing falls under Ontario's Fisheries Management Zone 13 (Lake Huron tributaries west of the Bruce Peninsula); night fishing above the south side of the bridge abutments up to the dam is closed for the entire month of October to protect spawning salmon. Shore fishing is also possible at the Saugeen River mouth in Southampton.

The Saugeen First Nation #29 reserve sits immediately north of Saugeen Shores along the Lake Huron shore, and the Nation hosts a competition Pow Wow on the second weekend of August at the Saugeen Amphitheatre — a stone amphitheatre embedded in the hillside above the Saugeen valley, used for community ceremony, music, and theatre. Programming through July and August opens the amphitheatre to visitors for workshops and performances; the Pow Wow weekend is the season's anchor for Native dance, handcraft, and music.

Chantry Island Lighthouse, completed on 1 April 1859 and standing about 1 km offshore from Southampton, sits inside a federal Migratory Bird Sanctuary that restricts public landing under the Migratory Birds Convention Act. The Marine Heritage Society holds the exclusive permit to operate tours: a 107-step climb up the imperial tower, the restored lightkeeper's cottage, and the bird-sanctuary shoreline. On the mainland, the Saugeen Amphitheatre — a stone amphitheatre embedded in the hillside above the Saugeen valley on Saugeen First Nation #29 — anchors the Nation's cultural programming, including the second-weekend-of-August Pow Wow.
