Freshwater Fishing.
Denny's Dam Conservation Area sits about 1.5 km upstream of where the Saugeen River meets Lake Huron in Southampton — roughly 1.5 km of river frontage and the most popular steelhead reach on the Saugeen, the "Lower Main" below the dam. Fall and spring runs draw anglers from across southern Ontario; Chinook and Coho salmon, brown trout, and warmwater species fill out the season.
The brief.
The Saugeen at Saugeen Shores falls under Ontario's Fisheries Management Zone 13 (Lake Huron tributaries west of the Bruce Peninsula); a valid Ontario fishing licence and the FMZ 13 regulations summary apply. Night fishing above the south side of the bridge abutments up to the dam is closed for the entire month of October to protect spawning salmon.
Spring steelhead runs through April–May; fall steelhead and Chinook/Coho through September–November. Smallmouth bass, walleye, muskie, and catfish are present in the wider system.
The Denny's Dam park is maintained by the Ontario Steelheaders Association; first-come, first-served overnight camping is permitted.
