Indigenous Experiences.

Saugeen First Nation #29 sits along the Lake Huron shore immediately north of Saugeen Shores, and the Saugeen Amphitheatre — a stone amphitheatre embedded in the hillside above the Saugeen valley — is the Nation's open-to-visitors cultural venue. The second weekend of August brings the competition Pow Wow: Native dance, handcraft, and music programming, with regalia, drum, and the dance circle in front of the open amphitheatre.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The Saugeen First Nation Pow Wow runs the second weekend of August; visitors are welcome but the protocols are the Nation's, not the town's — observe the announcer's guidance on photography, the dance circle, and respect for regalia. July and August Saugeen Amphitheatre programming opens the venue for workshops and performances beyond the Pow Wow weekend.

The Nation's territory and the town are separate jurisdictions: Saugeen Beach (privately owned by Saugeen First Nation, near Sauble Beach) is reached through the Nation, not through Saugeen Shores municipal channels.
