Brighton.
Brighton sits on the north shore of Lake Ontario at the western end of the Bay of Quinte, wrapped around Presqu'ile Bay and the Presqu'ile peninsula — a sand-spit tombolo that Ontario Parks runs as Presqu'ile Provincial Park. The park anchors the region: Owen Point's sand spit pulls in shorebirds in late summer; the Marsh Boardwalk and the protected gull-and-tern islands carry waterfowl and nesting colonies through the IBA-designated bay; the 1840 Presqu'ile lighthouse and the Friends of Presqu'ile Lighthouse Interpretive Centre sit on the peninsula's southern point.
Inside town, Brighton's heritage Main Street fills with the Applefest crowd on the last full weekend of September, and the Proctor House Museum (1853) anchors a small in-town heritage cluster. Brighton sits a short drive east of the GTA on the Toronto–Montreal corridor and at the eastern end of the Parks Canada–operated Murray Canal, which links Presqu'ile Bay to the Bay of Quinte and the Trent–Severn Waterway.

Hiking
Presqu'ile carries a network of short trails inside the park — the 1.2 km accessible Marsh Boardwalk threads cattail marsh, the 1.6 km return Owen Point Trail leads out the sand spit to the shorebird viewing area, and Newcastle Trail / Jobes' Woods and the Pioneer Trail run as forest loops through cedar and mixed-hardwood understorey. Mostly flat, mostly short — built for pairing with the Marsh Boardwalk and the lighthouse rather than long-distance hiking.

The Presqu'ile Lighthouse Loop wraps the southern point of the peninsula past the 1840 lighthouse and the Friends of Presqu'ile Lighthouse Interpretive Centre, with beach boardwalks running along the panne and dune sections of the southern shore. In town, Brighton's heritage Main Street — the Applefest venue on the last full weekend of September — provides a short walking spine through the historic core, and the Proctor House Museum sits a short distance off Main Street. Both walks are flat and accessible.

Presqu'ile Provincial Park runs a large Ontario Parks campground on the Lake Ontario peninsula — several hundred frontcountry and RV sites across multiple campgrounds (including High Bluff and Maples), all within walking distance of the park's beaches, the Marsh Boardwalk, and the lighthouse area. Reservations through the Ontario Parks reservation system; daily vehicle permits apply for day-use beyond the campground.

Presqu'ile Provincial Park is one of the major spring and fall migratory bird stopovers on the Great Lakes — IBA Canada designates the peninsula and bay as globally Significant. Owen Point's sand spit pulls in shorebirds through August and early September; the Marsh Boardwalk threads cattail and emergent marsh for waterfowl and marsh birds; Presqu'ile Bay carries waterfowl staging in spring and late fall; and the protected gull-and-tern islands offshore hold nesting colonies (access seasonally restricted). Friends of Presqu'ile Park run interpretive programming through the Lighthouse Interpretive Centre alongside the bird story.

Brighton is a documented community on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail; the Brighton segment carries cyclists on signed on-road and trail routing through town and into Presqu'ile Provincial Park. Inside the park, the paved internal road provides a flat signed cycling loop past the campgrounds, beaches, the Marsh Boardwalk, and the lighthouse. Together they form a short, accessible cycling product on the Lake Ontario shoreline.

Brighton sits at the eastern end of the Parks Canada–operated Murray Canal — an 8 km navigable channel linking Presqu'ile Bay (Lake Ontario) to the Bay of Quinte and the wider Trent–Severn Waterway, with staffed swing bridges through the navigation season. Presqu'ile Yacht Club anchors the local fleet on Presqu'ile Bay, and the harbour gives sailors and motor-boaters a sheltered base before locking through the canal toward Quinte.

The Presqu'ile lighthouse, built in 1840, is among the oldest surviving lighthouses on Lake Ontario. Friends of Presqu'ile Park run the Lighthouse Interpretive Centre at the southern tip of the peninsula through the summer season alongside park interpretive programming. In town, the Proctor House Museum (1853) anchors a small Victorian heritage stop a short drive from Main Street, and the Brighton heritage downtown core fills with the Applefest crowd in late September.
