Sailing & Boating.

The Murray Canal cuts west-to-east across the base of the Presqu'ile peninsula, linking Presqu'ile Bay (Lake Ontario) to the Bay of Quinte and onward to the Trent–Severn Waterway. Parks Canada operates the canal's swing bridges through the navigation season, and Brighton sits at the canal's western end on the Presqu'ile Bay side.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The Murray Canal navigation season runs roughly mid-May through mid-October; staffed swing bridges open on a published Parks Canada schedule and a navigation fee applies for through-locking on the Trent–Severn Waterway. Presqu'ile Yacht Club anchors the local fleet on Presqu'ile Bay, and the harbour gives sailors and motor-boaters a sheltered base before transiting east through the canal toward Quinte and the Trent–Severn.

Lake Ontario sailing out of Presqu'ile Bay is exposed to open-water weather; the canal corridor itself is sheltered. Best season is mid-May through mid-October.
