The Blue Mountains.
The Blue Mountains wraps the Niagara Escarpment edge from the Georgian Bay shoreline at Craigleith and Thornbury up onto the escarpment plateau, with the Beaver Valley running south through Clarksburg and Heathcote toward Eugenia. Blue Mountain Resort sits at the foot of the escarpment with 147 hectares of skiable terrain across 43 named trails, and Scenic Caves Nature Adventures works the cliff-edge a short distance south.
Inside the municipality, the Bruce Trail's Beaver Valley Section runs roughly 113 kilometres of main trail plus around 50 kilometres of side trails between Craigleith and Blantyre, the Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association manages a 50-kilometre back-country trail network in the Kolapore Uplands, and the Thornbury Fishway carries Chinook salmon and Rainbow trout up the Beaver River in fall and spring. The Georgian Trail rail-trail runs through Craigleith Provincial Park between Collingwood and Meaford, and the Apple Pie Trail strings together orchards, cideries, and breweries through Apple Country.
A short drive from Collingwood and Meaford along the Georgian Bay shore highway; a few hours from the GTA via the major north–south highway corridor.

Hiking
The Bruce Trail's Beaver Valley Section runs about 113 kilometres of main trail plus around 50 kilometres of side trails between Craigleith and Blantyre, threading the escarpment edge through the heart of The Blue Mountains. Metcalfe Rock and the Metcalf Escarpment Trail reach a summit overlook above the Kolapore Creek Valley, and Scenic Caves Nature Adventures works 370 acres of escarpment trails, fissure caves, and a 126-metre suspension bridge a short distance south of Blue Mountain Village. The Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association's 50-kilometre wilderness network covers ungroomed loops on the escarpment plateau.

The Georgian Trail runs 32 to 34 kilometres of rail-trail along the south Georgian Bay shore from Collingwood through Craigleith Provincial Park and Thornbury to Meaford, and The Blue Mountains carries the central segment. The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail's Blue Mountains nodes pick up the same shoreline corridor. South of the bay, Beaver Valley road-cycling loops through Heathcote, Kimberley, and Eugenia link orchards, cideries, and Apple Pie Trail stops on quiet country roads.

The Kolapore Uplands carry roughly 50 kilometres of ungroomed wilderness cross-country MTB on the escarpment plateau — the same network that runs as back-country Nordic in winter, used in summer by riders. Blue Mountain Resort runs a lift-served summer bike park at the resort, with descents off the escarpment back to the Village. Two distinct named MTB products inside the municipality cover both ends of the discipline.

Metcalfe Rock, on the escarpment edge above the Kolapore Creek Valley, is one of Southern Ontario's recognized Niagara Escarpment dolostone crags for sport, trad, top-rope, and bouldering. Devil's Glen and Old Baldy edge into Grey Highlands proper but are accessible from Beaver Valley road approaches. The escarpment rock here is the same Niagara dolostone that defines the Bruce Peninsula climbing further north.

The Thornbury Fishway, at the mouth of the Beaver River in downtown Thornbury, is a passive open-channel fish ladder operated by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources where Chinook salmon and Rainbow trout are visible jumping through the pools and steps during the migration windows. The Bighead River carries steelhead and Chinook into Meaford on the western edge of the township, and the Thornbury Pier reaches Georgian Bay shoreline waters. Fisheries Management Zone 16 sanctuary closures protect spawning runs on both rivers.

Blue Mountain Resort sits at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment with 147 hectares of skiable terrain across 43 named trails, 30 of them lit for night skiing — the largest skiable footprint in Ontario by named trail count. The longest run, Gord's Groove, measures 1.6 kilometres. The North Base draws families and beginners; the South Base carries wider intermediate runs; the central Village concentrates lift access and après-ski. The municipality is built around the resort and the Village, and lake-effect snow off Georgian Bay sustains the season.

The Kolapore Uplands Wilderness Trails are described in regional sources as among the few back-country Nordic networks in Southern Ontario — roughly 50 kilometres of ungroomed wilderness ski managed by the volunteer Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association. The trails are not groomed and are most suited to intermediate and advanced classic skiers; the County Forest section is the gentler entry point. Lake-effect snow off Georgian Bay sustains the season into March.

Scenic Caves Nature Adventures has worked the Niagara Escarpment cliff-edge since 1932 and runs the Thunderbird Twin Zip Line, a 126-metre suspension bridge across an escarpment gorge, and a treetop walk on 370 acres of forest. Blue Mountain Resort adds the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster and ziplines in season at the Village. Two named aerial-experience anchors inside one municipality is unusual at this scale on the south Georgian Bay shore.

The Apple Pie Trail strings together about 28 stops across The Blue Mountains, Meaford, the Beaver Valley, and Creemore — orchards, bakeries, cideries, breweries, and farm gates through Apple Country. Thornbury, Clarksburg, and Heathcote anchor the cluster within the municipality, with cideries and breweries in Thornbury working from local apple supply and orchards on the moraine plateau between the Niagara Escarpment and Georgian Bay.

Craigleith Provincial Park's flat fossil-bearing limestone shelves extend into Georgian Bay along the south shore — Ordovician shales known for trilobite fossils, with collection prohibited under Provincial Parks rules. Scenic Caves works the same Niagara Escarpment limestone in vertical form a short distance inland: fissure caves, ledges, and crevices in dolostone roughly 450 million years old. Together they cover both the shoreline and cliff-edge geology of the south Georgian Bay escarpment edge.
