Wildlife Viewing.
The Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary on the St. Lawrence Seaway shoreline near Morrisburg and Ingleside is a documented major fall staging area for Canada geese and ducks, with raptor traffic — eagles and hawks — passing the same shoreline corridor on migration.
The federal sanctuary designation (Environment and Climate Change Canada, 1961) gives the staging concentrations a stable viewing base from the Nature Centre and the observation tower on St. Lawrence Parks Commission land.
The brief.
The Migratory Bird Sanctuary is the lead viewing site — federally designated, jointly managed, and documented as a major fall waterfowl staging area on the upper St. Lawrence flyway.
The peak season for goose and duck staging is late September through November; spring migration in May is the secondary window. Hunting is prohibited within the federal sanctuary boundary, which keeps the staging concentrations undisturbed.
Visitor activity is restricted to the designated trails and the Nature Centre — viewing is from the Nature Centre, the observation tower, and the trails on Parks Commission land within the federal boundary. Raptor traffic is incidental rather than the lead claim; the ECCC sanctuary designation and the Canada-goose/duck staging are the primary substrate.
