Quinte West.
Quinte West sits where the Trent River reaches the western end of the Bay of Quinte — the city formed in 1998 from Trenton, Frankford, and the former townships of Sidney and Murray. Trent–Severn Waterway Lock 1 in Trenton is the eastern entry point of Parks Canada's 386 km, 44-lock heritage canal system to Georgian Bay, and Trent Port Marina sits immediately upstream of the lock with about 250 slips at the start of the waterway.
Eight kilometres west, the Murray Canal — built between 1882 and 1889 and managed by Parks Canada under the Trent–Severn Waterway National Historic Site — connects the Bay of Quinte to Presqu'ile Bay on Lake Ontario. The Bay of Quinte off Trenton is a recognized walleye fishery under FMZ 20, with open-water trophy fishing in fall and an ice fishery through winter.
Lower Trent Conservation manages Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area (388 ha, 17 km of multi-use trails on Canadian Shield outcrops) north of Frankford and the Lower Trent Trail along the Trent River corridor. The National Air Force Museum of Canada at 8 Wing / CFB Trenton — the Royal Canadian Air Force's largest base — anchors a national-tier aviation collection plus the outdoor RCAF Memorial Air Park.
Quinte West sits on the traditional territory of the Mississauga and Mohawk Nations; the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (Tyendinaga) are the closest reserve community, east along the bay.

Hiking
Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area, north of Frankford, runs 17 km of multi-use trails across 388 hectares of mixed forest and Canadian Shield outcrops — the southern fringe of the Shield reaches into Quinte West here, with exposed granite knobs that sit unusually close to a Lake Ontario city. Lower Trent Conservation also stewards Sager Conservation Area and the Lower Trent Trail, a multi-use rail-trail along the Trent River corridor through the city that forms part of the Trans Canada Trail. The conservation areas combine groomed surfaces, forest singletrack, and wetland-edge walking; the rail-trail is flat and accessible from downtown Trenton through Frankford.

Downtown Trenton's riverwalk threads Centennial Park, Trent Port Marina, and Trent–Severn Lock 1 — the operating Parks Canada lockstation puts visitors on the lock grounds during navigation season as boats lock through the start of the waterway. Eight kilometres upstream, Frankford Tourist Park sits on the Trent River with a sand beach, riverside loops, and a campground. The outdoor RCAF Memorial Air Park at the National Air Force Museum of Canada is an open-air walk among more than 25 aircraft from across the Royal Canadian Air Force's history; admission to the indoor museum is by donation.

Quinte Field Naturalists curates the regional birding inventory across Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area (mixed forest and Canadian Shield outcrops with forest birds and migrants), Sager Conservation Area, and the Bay of Quinte shoreline waterfowl and raptor migration corridor. The Murray Canal corridor adds sheltered marsh-edge habitat between the Bay of Quinte and Presqu'ile Bay. Lower Trent Conservation manages the in-city conservation areas; the Bay of Quinte and Murray Canal are the regional flyway substrate for spring and fall migration through the western end of the bay.

The Lower Trent Trail runs along the Trent River corridor through Quinte West as part of the Trans Canada Trail — a flat multi-use rail-trail that connects Frankford and Trenton along the lower Trent. Quinte West also sits on the Loyalist Parkway / Highway 33 corridor that crosses south on the Glenora ferry to Prince Edward County, opening the regional road-cycling route from Trenton through wine country to Kingston. The Trans Canada Trail continues east from Trenton toward Belleville and west toward Brighton.

The Trent River between Frankford and Trenton offers sheltered flatwater paddling on the lower Trent — Frankford Tourist Park has a designated launch on the river beside the swim beach. The Murray Canal is an 8 km flatwater corridor between the Bay of Quinte and Presqu'ile Bay, managed by Parks Canada under the Trent–Severn Waterway National Historic Site, with staffed swing bridges that open during the navigation season. From Trent Port Marina and the Trenton waterfront, paddlers can step out onto the western Bay of Quinte for short open-water crossings or short upstream paddles toward Lock 1.

Trenton in Quinte West is the eastern entry of the Trent–Severn Waterway — Lock 1 of Parks Canada's 386 km, 44-lock heritage canal system that runs from the Bay of Quinte to Georgian Bay. Trent Port Marina sits immediately upstream of the lock with about 250 slips and full service for transient cruisers stepping into the waterway. Eight kilometres west, the Murray Canal — built 1882–1889 and managed by Parks Canada under the same Trent–Severn National Historic Site — opens an 8 km navigable cut between the Bay of Quinte and Presqu'ile Bay on Lake Ontario. From Trent Port Marina, motor and sail boats run the Bay of Quinte cruising waters east toward Belleville and Kingston or south through the Murray Canal toward Lake Ontario.

The Bay of Quinte off Trenton is a recognized walleye fishery — the western end of the bay concentrates pre-spawn walleye into the Trent River mouth in late fall, and the winter ice fishery off the Trenton waterfront and Trent Port Marina pulls anglers through January and February. Bay of Quinte Walleye World, a long-running tournament, operates out of Trent Port Marina. The Trent River through Trenton, Frankford, and Glen Miller carries year-round bass and pike, and the Murray Canal adds sheltered bass water. Bay of Quinte waters fall under FMZ 20 with Bay-specific walleye seasons and slot limits — consult the current Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary before fishing.

Two Parks Canada heritage canal components sit inside Quinte West: Trent–Severn Lock 1 in Trenton — the eastern entry of the 386 km waterway — and the Murray Canal, an 8 km cut between the Bay of Quinte and Presqu'ile Bay built 1882–1889 with staffed swing bridges at Carrying Place and Brighton Road. The National Air Force Museum of Canada at 8 Wing / CFB Trenton houses Canada's national air force collection alongside the outdoor RCAF Memorial Air Park, with more than 25 aircraft on open-air display covering the Royal Canadian Air Force's full era. 8 Wing itself is the RCAF's largest base and the home of the air mobility command — CC-130J Hercules and CC-177 Globemaster III squadrons fly out of Trenton — and the Highway of Heroes runs west from Trenton toward Toronto.
