Hiking.
Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area, north of Frankford, runs 17 km of multi-use trails across 388 hectares of mixed forest and Canadian Shield outcrops — the southern fringe of the Shield reaches into Quinte West here, with exposed granite knobs that sit unusually close to a Lake Ontario city. Lower Trent Conservation also stewards Sager Conservation Area and the Lower Trent Trail along the Trent River corridor.
The brief.
Goodrich-Loomis is the day-hike anchor — Lower Trent Conservation manages the property, and the 17 km network combines hiking, mountain biking, and snowshoeing across mixed hardwood forest and Shield outcrops. Sager Conservation Area adds a smaller LTC-managed property.
Through the city, the Lower Trent Trail forms a flat multi-use rail-trail along the Trent River corridor between Frankford and Trenton — part of the Trans Canada Trail — and connects east toward Belleville and west toward Brighton. Best season is May through October for hiking; the Goodrich-Loomis network is walkable in winter on snowshoes and the rail-trail is flat and accessible most of the year.
