Swimming & Beach.

Nickel Beach is the City-operated Lake Erie sand beach east of the canal mouth in Port Colborne — the city's flagship beach, with seasonal day-use fees, parking, and seasonal lifeguards. HH Knoll Lakeview Park adds rockier lake-shore access at the canal mouth, and Mariner's Park west of the canal adds a smaller lakefront.

Swimming & Beach in Port Colborne
01 — What to know

The brief.

Nickel Beach is the longest sand beach in Port Colborne and is City-operated — day-use fees and parking apply on a seasonal calendar, and lifeguards run during posted hours through the summer. The name comes from the nickel-slag historical association with INCO refining; the active beach is sand.

HH Knoll Lakeview Park has direct lake access at the canal mouth but is more rocky shoreline and grassy parkland than full sand beach, and is better suited to lakefront strolling than swimming. For the much longer Lake Erie sand product — the kilometre-scale beach at Long Beach in Wainfleet and the beach village at Crystal Beach in Fort Erie — head one municipality west or east.

June through August is the swim-season window.
