Freshwater Fishing in Port Colborne
01 — What to know

The brief.

An Ontario fishing licence is required and the FMZ 16 (eastern Lake Erie) and FMZ 19 (Welland Canal) seasons and limits apply — check the current Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary before heading out. The Lake Erie product is principally a boat fishery: walleye and yellow perch in the open eastern basin, smallmouth bass nearer the shoals, lake trout in deeper water on charter.

Sugarloaf Marina and the canal-mouth ramps are the main launch points. The Welland Canal in city limits offers bank fishing for largemouth bass, pike, and panfish; stay clear of working ship-traffic areas around Lock 8.

May through October is the open-water window.
