Seasonal Phenomena.
The Beaver Valley turn runs mid-September through mid-October on the escarpment hardwood slopes above and below the Old Baldy outlook at Kimberley. Sugar maple, beech, and ironwood concentrate in the Niagara Escarpment hardwood mix here, producing the strongest reds and oranges; the Bruce Trail and Eugenia Falls Conservation Area lookouts open long views across the colour-turned valley.
The brief.
Peak colour timing varies by season but typically lands in the first or second week of October on the upper escarpment slopes; the lower valley floor turns slightly later. Grey County Road 13 carries the most-driven scenic loop, threading the eastern side of the valley between Kimberley and Eugenia.
Old Baldy and the Eugenia Falls rim sit above the canopy; both are walkable from short Bruce Trail spurs. Weekend crowds are real on peak weekends — Apple Pie Trail traffic compounds with leaf-peeping traffic in the same corridor.
Weekday visits and early-morning starts trade pace for crowd. The same Bruce Trail and conservation areas that anchor hiking are the colour-viewing infrastructure.
