Cycling.
The Algonquin Trail / Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail — the former CPR rail line through the Ottawa Valley — passes through Whitewater Region as a flat gravel rail trail, the township's primary cycling spine for gravel and rail-trail riding through Cobden, Beachburg, and out across rural Renfrew County.
The brief.
The rail trail is multi-use — ATV and snowmobile use is also permitted on segments depending on season — and surface and segment status vary across the township. Cyclists should check the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail / Algonquin Trail status before a long ride.
The Trans-Canada Highway 17 corridor is the main road through the township but is a busy truck route and not preferred for road cycling; the rural concession roads off Highway 17 carry quieter rolling Ottawa Valley terrain. Best season is May through October.
