Paddling — Sea & Coastal.
Colpoy's Bay along the Wiarton and Mar shoreline is sheltered inner-Georgian-Bay sea-kayak water at the base of the Bruce Peninsula, with launch access from Bluewater Park on the Wiarton harbour. On the west side, the Lake Huron Sauble shore opens into more exposed open-water paddling; the lower Sauble River above and below Sauble Falls Provincial Park gives a flatwater alternative when Lake Huron is up.
The brief.
Colpoy's Bay's south shore is the sheltered side of the south Bruce Peninsula sea-kayak picture, sitting in Ontario Fisheries Management Zone 16 and protected from the prevailing westerlies that build surf on the Sauble side. Lake Huron at Sauble is exposed and changes quickly; intermediate-or-better paddlers handle it in settled weather, but sea kayakers crossing toward the open shore should plan for wind shifts.
The lower Sauble River above and below Sauble Falls Provincial Park is the flatwater fallback — short, sheltered, and easy access from the park's day-use areas. Best season is June through September; fall steelhead and salmon traffic at the falls is a consideration on the river itself.
