Swimming & Beach.
Sauble Beach runs roughly 11 km along the Lake Huron coast — widely cited as one of the longest freshwater beaches in the world. The west-facing sand shoreline draws long sunset evenings over open Lake Huron, with shallow sand-bottom swimming and a designated piping plover nesting habitat in the dunes that's protected under the Endangered Species Act each spring and summer.
The brief.
Sauble Beach is open year-round but the swimming season runs late May through September; piping plover nesting protection zones are active on the dunes from May through August, and entering fenced dune areas during the breeding season is prohibited under the Endangered Species Act. Town parking and amenities concentrate at the main beach access points off Lakeshore Boulevard.
Sauble Falls Provincial Park, on the Sauble River a short distance upstream, offers a freshwater swimming alternative — natural pools below the stepped limestone cascade with shaded riverbank access — under Ontario Parks day-use permits and the park's seasonal management. Lake Huron's prevailing westerlies can build surf on the open Sauble shore in changing weather; the river pools at Sauble Falls are sheltered by comparison.
