Freshwater Fishing.
Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching share Fisheries Management Zone 16. Lake Simcoe carries lake trout, lake whitefish, perch, and smallmouth bass and is one of Ontario's most intensively fished inland lakes — its ice fishery accounts for more than half of all fishing on the lake.
Lake Couchiching adds perch, pike, walleye, and lake trout, and the Talbot River carries Trent-Severn fishing access through Lock 41 Gamebridge.
The brief.
A valid Ontario fishing licence and FMZ 16 seasons and limits apply on every Ramara water. The ice-fishing season on Lake Simcoe typically runs January through March, weather-dependent; ice conditions vary year to year and require local condition reports.
Open-water bass and walleye seasons follow the FMZ 16 calendar — bass open the fourth Saturday in June on most Simcoe-Couchiching waters. The Trent Canal System through Lock 41 holds the same FMZ 16 species set.
The Lake Simcoe and Couchiching Fisheries Stewardship Council coordinates lake-management research; the Ministry of Natural Resources publishes the regulatory summary.
