Ramara.
Ramara stretches along the eastern shore of Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching, joined at the Atherley Narrows where the Mnjikaning Fish Weirs National Historic Site preserves wooden fish weirs in use from approximately 3300 BC — a sacred place stewarded by the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. The township carries 104 km of Lake Simcoe shoreline and two operating provincial parks (Mara Provincial Park and McRae Point Provincial Park, each on the north shore).
Lock 41 Gamebridge is the gateway to the Trent-Severn Waterway's Talbot River section, the first of five manual locks that climb 22.2 metres in 8 km. Inland, Sweetwater Farm Nature Reserve (181 acres, 2 km loop along Stickleback Stream) protects grassland-bird habitat at the southern extent of the Black River Wildlands corridor.
Brechin, Lagoon City, Atherley, and Washago anchor the township's communities, and the whole stretch sits about an hour and a half north of the GTA via Highway 400 and Highway 12.

Camping
Mara Provincial Park sits on the north shore of Lake Simcoe with a sandy beach and a 2026 operating season from May 8 through September 7, and McRae Point Provincial Park lies about 3 km southeast with more than 200 RV campsites in two campgrounds, pull-through sites for large equipment, a 1.2 km nature trail, and a boat launch. Two operating provincial parks within a single lower-tier township is uncommon, and both run reservations through the Ontario Parks system.

Lock 41 Gamebridge is the gateway to the Talbot River section of the Trent-Severn Waterway — the first of five manual locks across an 8 km stretch that climbs 22.2 metres. Boats moving north from Lake Simcoe pass through the Atherley Narrows between Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching at the foot of Highway 12. Lagoon City carries more than 16 km of canals on the Lake Simcoe shore in Brechin, and Brechin Dry Dock Marine sits within the canal community. Locking through Lock 41 opens the Talbot River corridor toward Lake Simcoe; navigation runs roughly mid-May to mid-October.

The township maintains five public beaches across 104 km of Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching shoreline. Brechin Beach runs about 45 metres along Lakeshore Drive, with weekly water sampling June 1 through September 8. Mara Provincial Park's sandy beach anchors the camping side of the lake, and Lagoon City carries a public beach plus two private community beaches inside its canal network. All township beaches are unsupervised.

Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching share Fisheries Management Zone 16; Lake Simcoe is one of Ontario's most intensively fished inland lakes, with a sport-fish community dominated by lake trout, lake whitefish, perch, and smallmouth bass and an ice fishery that accounts for more than half of all fishing on the lake. Lake Couchiching carries perch, pike, walleye, and lake trout. The Talbot River and Trent Canal System run through Lock 41 Gamebridge inside the same FMZ. Provincial licences and FMZ 16 seasons and limits apply.

The Mnjikaning Fish Weirs National Historic Site at the Atherley Narrows is a sacred place stewarded by the Anishinaabeg and the Chippewas of Rama First Nation; the wooden weirs in use from approximately 3300 BC are among the oldest human developments in Canada. The Chippewas of Rama First Nation's main reserve — Mnjikaning First Nation 32, about 5 km northeast of Orillia — is the host community for Casino Rama Resort. Visitor coordination at the Mnjikaning Fish Weirs site flows through Rama First Nation and the Mnjikaning Fish Fence Circle.
