Swimming & Beach.
Outlet Beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park runs along Lake Ontario's north shore beneath shifting dune ridges that reach roughly 25 m high and stretch about 12 km — the world's largest baymouth barrier dune formation. Dunes Beach sits on the West Lake side directly under the dune ridge with a steep drop-off, and Lakeshore Beach is the quieter Lake Ontario day-use option between the two.
North Beach Provincial Park adds a 1.2 km Lake Ontario beach 20 km up the shore.
The brief.
Sandbanks operates April 24 – October 26, 2026 for camping and day use, with peak swim conditions July through early September when Outlet Beach water temperatures routinely sit at 22–24 °C. The park frequently reaches vehicle capacity by mid-morning in summer; daily-vehicle reservations through Ontario Parks are essentially required for July and August day use.
There are no posted lifeguards on Sandbanks beaches, and pets are prohibited except in designated areas. North Beach Provincial Park is day-use only with no overnight camping, and sits on the same baymouth-bar geology that shelters North Bay behind the sandbar.
