Surf & Wind.
Sandbanks Outlet Beach catches steady onshore wind off Lake Ontario fetch, with a long sand beach and shallow gradient that have built the County's small but recognized kitesurfing and windsurfing scene. Wellington Beach on the village edge and Salmon Point further west round out the south- and west-shore wind sites.
The same fetch that shuts down crossings on the open lake delivers the wind that makes the kite-and-board scene work.
The brief.
The working windows are spring and fall for steady wind, summer for warmer water — the wind sites sit on the open south and west shores where Lake Ontario fetch generates consistent breezes. Sandbanks Outlet Beach is the largest of the wind sites and shares the Sandbanks parking-reservation discipline: daily-vehicle reservations are essentially required for July and August day use.
Wellington Beach and Salmon Point are the smaller alternatives away from the Sandbanks gate. The County's wind-sport scene is small-scale relative to Great Lakes hubs like Long Point's Outer Bay; expect locals rather than commercial outfitters.
