Paddling — Flatwater.

West Lake inside Sandbanks Provincial Park puts paddlers immediately beneath the dune ridge — the County's distinctive dune-from-the-water perspective. East Lake on the opposite side of the park is the second sheltered inland option, with on-site canoe, kayak, and SUP rentals.

The Bay of Quinte's coves and Adolphus Reach offer additional sheltered flatwater away from the open Lake Ontario fetch on the south shore.

01 — What to know

The brief.

West Lake and East Lake are the two sheltered shallow inland lakes inside Sandbanks Provincial Park, with rentals available on-site through the park-operating window of April 24 – October 26, 2026. The marquee window for paddling is June through September when surface temperatures and wind statistics align.

The Bay of Quinte side — coves and Adolphus Reach — sits sheltered behind the County itself and stays paddleable when the open south shore is wind-blown. Open Lake Ontario on the south shore is exposed and routinely shuts paddling down in heavy weather; it falls outside the Flatwater scope here.
