01 — What to know

The brief.

Arrowhead's trail network is the year-round backbone — 15 km includes the waterfall trail to Stubb's Falls, the Big Bend Lookout vantage above the river, and shoreline loops on Arrowhead Lake. Lion's Lookout is a short, moderately challenging 0.6-mile loop with about 30 metres of elevation gain to a four-pillar red-roofed gazebo; the trail is open year-round and dogs are welcome on leash.

Hunters Bay Trail covers 4.6 km with the 500-metre floating boardwalk as the visual anchor; the trail begins at the Centre Street bridge and crosses under the Highway 11 bridge to East Airport Road. The Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve in Lake of Bays township offers more than 70 kilometres of free public trails (12 principal trails ranging from the 0.7-km Buck Lake Lookout to the 6.3-km Solitaire Trail) — every visitor must complete an online safety waiver before arrival.
