Hiking.

The Gananoque Trail System carries a 12 km perimeter network within town across three return-to-trailhead loops — the Lions Loop, the River Loop, and the Rogers Loop — connecting Joel Stone Heritage Park, Confederation Park, Kinsmen Park, and the Hudson Bridge along the Gananoque River. About 5 km east on the Thousand Islands Parkway, the Landon Bay Centre adds the 5 km Donevan Trail and the Lookout Trail above the St.

Lawrence.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The town trailhead sits at the Umbrella on King St., with all three loops returning to that point. The Lions Loop (4.3 km) is the most accessible of the three, with sections passable for bicycles and wheelchairs; the River Loop (5.0 km) threads the white pine plantation, boardwalk, Joel Stone Park, and Town Marina; the Rogers Loop (5.9 km) runs north past Stocking Hill Creek bridge and the old race track to Town Hall Park.

The Landon Bay Centre, ~5 km east of Gananoque on the Thousand Islands Parkway, is technically in Leeds and the Thousand Islands township but has been programmed as a Gananoque-area trail network since 1960 and is now managed by the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Foundation. May through October is the easiest window; the in-town loops are walkable year-round.
