Two yacht clubs operate on the lower Detroit River at Amherstburg — the Amherstburg Yacht Club and the River Canard Yacht Club — with direct Lake Erie access at the river mouth. Boblo Island Marina sits across the channel.
The Detroit River corridor here carries international shipping traffic between Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair, which is part of the cruising character rather than a hazard to dodge from the dock.

Best season is May through October. The Amherstburg / Boblo segment is sheltered Detroit River water with direct Lake Erie access at the river mouth — the river is a Canadian Heritage River, designated 2001, and runs through the only International Wildlife Refuge in North America.
Bois Blanc / Boblo Island fronts the Amherstburg waterfront; the island is private and the 1836 lighthouse is viewable only from the water. Beyond the yacht-club moorings, watch for international border-crossing shipping traffic transiting the channels.
