Walking & Strolling.
King's Navy Yard Park sits on the footprint of the late-18th-century British naval shipyard, with paved paths along the Detroit River. From the park, Fort Malden's earthworks at 100 Laird Avenue are a short stroll, and the line of sight across the channel runs to Bois Blanc Island and its 1836 limestone lighthouse — four named heritage sites in one walkable downtown core.
The brief.
The waterfront stitch is flat, paved, and walkable any season the wind off Lake Erie cooperates. Fort Malden NHS grounds open for the 2026 season on May 16; Canada Strong Pass admission is free June 19 – September 7.
Beyond the downtown core, Holiday Beach Conservation Area carries Carolinian-thicket and Lake Erie shoreline trails under the three-storey observation tower (day use 6 a.m. – 8 p.m., mid-April through Thanksgiving), and Big Creek Conservation Area's adjoining marsh and forest complex draws spring and fall migration walkers. Holiday Beach sits roughly 15 minutes' drive from downtown Amherstburg — confirm before treating it as a walk-from-town asset.
