Nature & Discovery.

Ojibway Park's interpretive centre sits inside the only tallgrass prairie and oak savanna concentration of its size in Ontario — five connected parks across roughly 350 hectares of west Windsor. Black Oak Heritage Park's oak savanna and the Ojibway Prairie Provincial Nature Reserve's 105 hectares of remnant prairie hold more than 160 species at risk, with peak prairie bloom in July and August and monarch staging through September.

Nature & Discovery in Windsor
01 — What to know

The brief.

The five parks of the Ojibway Prairie Complex (Ojibway Park, Black Oak Heritage Park, Spring Garden ANSI, Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park, and Ojibway Prairie Provincial Nature Reserve) sit within a short walk or drive of each other in west Windsor. Ojibway Park houses the Ojibway Nature Centre with year-round programming.

The Ojibway Prairie Provincial Nature Reserve is a day-use nature reserve under Ontario Parks with no developed facilities — pets, cycling, and off-trail use are restricted to protect species at risk habitat. The complex is being established as Ojibway National Urban Park in partnership between Parks Canada, the City of Windsor, the Province of Ontario, Caldwell First Nation, and Walpole Island First Nation.

Peche Island, an 86-acre island park at the mouth of the Detroit River, is accessible only by private boat, day-use only.
