Windsor.
Windsor sits at the southwestern tip of Ontario on the south bank of the Detroit River, facing the Detroit skyline across an international shipping channel that drains Lake St. Clair into Lake Erie.
Inside city limits, the Ojibway Prairie Complex protects roughly 350 hectares of tallgrass prairie, oak savanna, and Carolinian forest across five connected parks — Ojibway Park, Black Oak Heritage Park, Spring Garden ANSI, Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park, and the 105-hectare Ojibway Prairie Provincial Nature Reserve — and Parks Canada is establishing the Ojibway National Urban Park in partnership with the City of Windsor, the Province of Ontario, Caldwell First Nation, and Walpole Island First Nation. The continuous Riverfront Park system runs more than 5 km from the Ambassador Bridge east to Hiram Walker, with the Odette Sculpture Park threaded along it; west of downtown, Olde Sandwich Towne (founded 1797) holds Sandwich First Baptist Church, the Duff-Baby House (1798), and Mackenzie Hall (1855).
A few hours from London on the major highway corridor; minutes from Detroit by the Ambassador Bridge or the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel.

Hiking
Ojibway Park's signed loop trails carry walkers through Carolinian forest and tallgrass prairie remnants and connect into Black Oak Heritage Park's oak savanna, Spring Garden ANSI, and Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park — together the five-park Ojibway Prairie Complex on Windsor's west side. North of the Ojibway cluster, Devonwood Conservation Area protects 11 hectares of urban Carolinian forest with walking trails, and Malden Park's reclaimed-landfill hill offers the only meaningful elevation in the city for a short loop with a Detroit-skyline view.

The Riverfront Park system runs more than 5 km along the south bank of the Detroit River from the Ambassador Bridge east to Hiram Walker, with the Odette Sculpture Park's open-air works threaded along it, Coventry Gardens / Reaume Park anchoring the Charlie Brooks Memorial Peace Fountain in the river, and Dieppe Gardens at the foot of Ouellette Avenue. West of downtown, Olde Sandwich Towne carries heritage walking through the 1797 village core; in Walkerville, Willistead Manor's grounds open the 1906 Tudor-revival estate to public walking.

The Ojibway Prairie Complex protects approximately 350 hectares of tallgrass prairie, oak savanna, and Carolinian forest across five connected parks — Ojibway Park (and the Ojibway Nature Centre), Black Oak Heritage Park, Spring Garden ANSI, Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park, and the 105-hectare Ojibway Prairie Provincial Nature Reserve — supporting more than 160 species at risk including eastern foxsnake, Butler's gartersnake, eastern fox squirrel, prothonotary warbler, and dense blazing star. Parks Canada is establishing Ojibway National Urban Park here in partnership with the City of Windsor, the Province of Ontario, Caldwell First Nation, and Walpole Island First Nation. Peche Island, an 86-acre park at the river mouth, hosts bald eagle nesting.

The Cypher Systems Group Greenway (formerly Chrysler Canada Greenway) runs 50 km of former CASO rail trail from Oldcastle on Windsor's south edge through Essex County toward Ruthven and Leamington, and is part of the Trans Canada Trail. Inside the city, the paved Riverfront Trail follows the Detroit River along the Riverfront Park system, the Ganatchio Trail carries roughly 6 km of paved cycling on Windsor's east side from Riverside Drive to Lakeview Park, and the Little River Pathway adds a sheltered urban-river segment between them.

Lakeview Park Marina on Windsor's east side is the city's main public launch onto Lake St. Clair; the Windsor Yacht Club anchors the local sailing scene off the same shoreline. Recreational motor-boating runs the Detroit River along marked navigation channels alongside the international shipping corridor, with Peche Island providing an island-park destination at the river mouth. The Detroit River is an active commercial shipping channel; recreational boaters yield to commercial traffic.

The Detroit River spring walleye run between March and May is one of the better-known walleye fisheries on the Great Lakes, and Lake St. Clair carries muskie, smallmouth bass, and yellow perch throughout the open-water season. Both waters fall within Ontario Fisheries Management Zone 19; an Ontario fishing licence and FMZ 19 seasons and limits apply. Windsor is one of several access points on a fishery shared with Tecumseh, Lakeshore, Amherstburg, and the US Detroit/Trenton shoreline opposite.

The Ojibway Prairie Complex carries more than 160 species at risk including the eastern fox squirrel, prothonotary warbler, eastern foxsnake, and Butler's gartersnake, plus monarch staging on the prairies in late August and September. The Detroit River corridor — designated a Canadian Heritage River in 2001 — runs spring waterfowl and migratory raptors along the international shoreline, and Peche Island hosts bald eagle nesting at the river mouth. The named raptor-migration anchor for the broader north-shore-of-Lake-Erie flyway sits 30 minutes south at Holiday Beach in Amherstburg.

Olde Sandwich Towne, founded 1797, is one of the oldest continuously settled European communities in Ontario; its village core holds Sandwich First Baptist Church (1851), an Underground Railroad terminus where freedom seekers crossed the Detroit River to British North America, the Duff-Baby House (1798), and Mackenzie Hall (1855). East along the Riverfront Park system, the Odette Sculpture Park threads more than 30 large-scale outdoor works along the south bank of the Detroit River with the Detroit skyline opposite. Willistead Manor, a 1906 Tudor-revival estate on Niagara Street, anchors Walkerville's heritage core.
