Cycling.
The Welland Canals Parkway Trail follows the recreational canal through the centre of Welland — a paved multi-use trail and a segment of the Greater Niagara Circle Route, the roughly 140-kilometre canal-corridor loop linking Lake Erie at Port Colborne to Lake Ontario at Port Weller. Welland sits in the middle of the loop and is a natural staging point.
The brief.
The riding is flat, paved, and signed, with regular access points along the canal corridor. From Welland you can ride south along the recreational canal toward Port Colborne (Lake Erie end of the canal system) or north toward Thorold (Lock 7 viewing complex and the flight locks 4-5-6, where the active canal climbs the Niagara Escarpment) and onward to St.
Catharines and Port Weller. The Welland Canals Parkway Trail is part of the Trans Canada Trail.
May through October is the cycling window; winter use depends on snow clearing — check the City of Welland and Niagara Region for current trail conditions. Multi-use rules apply: paved trail shared with walkers, runners, and rollers.
