Cycling.
The Martin Goodman Trail runs the Toronto segment of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail along the Lake Ontario shoreline from the Humber Bay Arch Bridge east to the Rouge River. From the harbour, the Lower Don Trail climbs 4.7 paved kilometres up the Don Valley from Corktown Commons to Pottery Road and meets the Pan Am Path — the city-spanning route stitching the Humber, the Don, and the waterfront into one continuous east–west and north–south spine.
The brief.
The Martin Goodman Trail is paved and family-friendly through most of its length; the eastern end into Tommy Thompson Park is open only on weekends, holidays, and weekday evenings (the Spit's standard access window). The Lower Don Trail's Pottery Road–Queen Street stretch has been intermittently closed for Metrolinx construction with reopening expected by spring 2026 — check City and Don River Valley Park conditions before going.
The Pan Am Path is roughly 84 km of stitched routes connecting the city's east–west and north–south trail spine. The Beltline Trail runs about 9 km on a former CPR rail corridor through the midtown ravines from Allen Road to the Don Valley.
Toronto Islands cycling is car-free and reachable by ferry; rentals are available at Centre Island and Ward's.
