01 — Abstract

Sundridge is a small Almaguin Highlands village on the north shore of Lake Bernard, sitting on Highway 11 between Burk's Falls and South River in Parry Sound District. The village's defining feature is the lake at its doorstep — Lake Bernard, widely cited as one of the largest lakes in the world without an island, fronts the village from the south and runs into Strong Township beyond the village footprint.

Lake Bernard Park is the municipal lakefront access on the village side: a sand beach, swimming area, and small-craft launch onto a contiguous flatwater paddling lake. The South River flows out of the lake's north end west toward the Lake Nipissing watershed, and FMZ 11 fishing rules cover Lake Bernard and the surrounding Almaguin lakes.

In winter, the OFSC Trans Ontario Provincial trail network runs through the Almaguin corridor with Sundridge as a fuel-and-services stop on the groomed snowmobile route. Adjacent slugs — Strong Township, Joly, South River, Burk's Falls — claim their own footprints; Sundridge is the village on Lake Bernard.

Paddling — Flatwater

Lake Bernard fronts the village from the south — a sizeable warmwater Almaguin lake that's widely cited as one of the largest lakes in the world without an island. From Lake Bernard Park's municipal access, paddlers head out onto a single contiguous flatwater body without portage or interior-permit logistics, which makes Sundridge a working day-paddle destination rather than a backcountry-trip staging village. The South River flows out of the lake's north end west toward the Lake Nipissing watershed, carrying small-stream paddling on its accessible reaches. Most of Lake Bernard's shoreline outside the village footprint sits in Strong Township; Sundridge's defensible claim is the north-shore village access.

Swimming & Beach

Lake Bernard Park is the village's municipal lakefront park — a sand beach and swimming area on Lake Bernard's north shore at the village edge. It's a real named in-village beach destination rather than informal lake access: a short walk from the Highway 11 village core, with seasonal day-use facilities. The lake is warmwater and shallow near the shore, which makes the beach a credible family-swim destination through the Almaguin summer rather than a Provincial-Park-scale draw.

Snow Adventure

The OFSC Trans Ontario Provincial trail network runs through the Almaguin Highlands corridor with Sundridge sitting on the through-route between Burk's Falls to the south and the South River / Near North trail clusters to the north. Local OFSC member clubs maintain the corridor, which connects Almaguin riders to the broader TOP system across the Near North; the village functions as a fuel-and-services stop. A valid OFSC trail permit is required, and trail status, alternate routings, and grooming reports are published on the OFSC Interactive Trail Guide.
