Sailing & Boating.
Three public access points anchor Oro-Medonte's Lake Simcoe sailing — Bayview Memorial Park at Shanty Bay, Carthew Bay, and Hawkestone Memorial Park. The north-shore launches put boats on open water quickly with sheltered bays close at hand, on one of southern Ontario's largest open-water lakes.
The brief.
Lake Simcoe's principal sailing centres sit on Kempenfelt Bay (Barrie) and Cook's Bay (Innisfil); Oro-Medonte's role is shoreline access on the open north shore. The three public Township parks — Bayview, Carthew, and Hawkestone — offer launches and shoreline parking.
Lake Simcoe is open water from late April through November in most years, and the lake's exposure can build wind and chop quickly; check the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority's water-level and forecast information before heading out. Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority regulates development within 120 metres of the shoreline under the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan, which affects shore-side infrastructure rather than recreational use.
