Cycling.
The Lake Country Oro-Medonte Rail Trail follows a former CN line for roughly 28 kilometres between Barrie and Orillia — a flat crushed-stone corridor that threads the full length of the township and carries the Trans Canada Trail through Oro-Medonte. The rail-trail's grade and surface make the corridor accessible for casual day rides and longer touring days alike.
The brief.
Cycling in Oro-Medonte centres on the Lake Country Rail Trail. The corridor is shared multi-use — cyclists share the surface with walkers and runners — and motor vehicles are prohibited per Simcoe County trail policy.
The rail trail is open year-round, but the unpaved crushed-stone surface rides best in dry conditions from late spring through fall colours. Beyond the rail trail, Copeland Forest's forest-road network on the Oro Moraine adds gravel options, and rural concession roads connect everything across the moraine.
The corridor runs from the Barrie boundary to Orillia, with road-crossings and access points throughout the township.
