Mountain Biking.
Hardwood Ski and Bike's purpose-built cross-country mountain bike network on the Oro Moraine is one of the established XC networks in Ontario — race-grade trails on rolling glacial terrain east of Barrie. Copeland Forest's informal singletrack and forest-road network on the same moraine adds adjacent terrain, and both centres pull from the Oro Moraine ridge for their riding lines.
The brief.
Hardwood is the destination centre — purpose-built cross-country lines designed for both racing and recreational riders, accessed via the resort's trail-pass system. The terrain is XC rather than gravity flow; the moraine's mixed glacial deposits and rolling pitches give the network steady-grade climbs and descents rather than steep technical descents.
Copeland Forest's informal singletrack and forest-road network on the moraine sits adjacent and can be ridden for free as part of the Crown forest's multi-use management — riders share the network with hikers, hunters in season, and cross-country skiers in winter. Best season is May through October; spring riding can be muddy on the moraine soils, and Hardwood's seasonal opening depends on trail conditions.
