Orillia.
Orillia sits on the narrow isthmus between Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching, joined at the Atherley Narrows on the Trent–Severn Waterway between Lock 41 (Couchiching) and Lock 42 above Washago. Couchiching Beach Park anchors the Lake Couchiching shoreline at the foot of downtown — 28 acres of lakeshore with the Champlain Monument and the Aqua Theatre band shell — and Centennial Park carries the Port of Orillia municipal marina on the same waterway.
Tudhope Park sits on the Lake Simcoe side and hosts the Mariposa Folk Festival each July, an event that has run annually since 1961. The Stephen Leacock Museum National Historic Site preserves the humorist's lakeside Old Brewery Bay home on Lake Couchiching, designated a National Historic Site in 1992.
The Lightfoot Trail and Millennium Trail stitch the waterfront together; the Uhthoff Trail runs northwest on the Trans Canada Trail toward Coldwater. About an hour and a half from the GTA on the major highway corridor north.

Walking & Strolling
The Lake Couchiching waterfront ribbon links Couchiching Beach Park (28 acres, Champlain Monument, Aqua Theatre) to Centennial Park (Port of Orillia marina, boardwalk) via the Lightfoot Trail. South along Lake Simcoe, Tudhope Park carries open lakefront and the Mariposa Folk Festival site. Downtown Mississaga Street threads heritage commercial blocks past the Orillia Museum of Art and History to the foot of Couchiching Beach Park. The Millennium Trail connects neighbourhoods inland to the lakeshore network.

The Lightfoot Trail and Millennium Trail combine paved waterfront and connector cycling inside Orillia, anchoring on Couchiching Beach Park and Centennial Park. The Uhthoff Trail runs northwest from the city as a Trans Canada Trail rail-trail link toward Coldwater on the abandoned-rail corridor. Together the urban and rail-trail networks make Orillia a southern anchor for cross-county rail-trail cycling between Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay.

Lake Couchiching launches from Couchiching Beach Park, Centennial Park, and Tudhope Park put paddlers on flat lake water immediately. Tudhope Park also opens onto Lake Simcoe — large open water that calls for weather watching. The Trent–Severn Waterway corridor north toward Washago and the Severn River is paddleable between motor-boat traffic. The two-lake setup makes Orillia a daily-paddle product rather than a destination canoe trip.

The Port of Orillia municipal marina sits at Centennial Park on the Trent–Severn Waterway between Lock 41 (Couchiching) at the north end of Lake Simcoe and Lock 42 above Washago — the navigable corridor that links Lake Ontario at Trenton to Georgian Bay at Port Severn over 386 km and 44 locks. From the Port of Orillia, sailors and motor-boaters cross open Lake Couchiching to the north, lock through Couchiching south into Lake Simcoe, or run upstream past Washago toward the Severn River. Two large Trent–Severn lakes immediately on either side of one city is the boating identity here.

Lake Simcoe (Fisheries Management Zone 16) sits immediately south of Orillia and carries lake trout, whitefish, yellow perch, and herring (cisco) — among Ontario's most-fished winter ice fisheries, with regulations governing zone-specific spawning closures and limits. Lake Couchiching (FMZ 17) sits immediately north and carries muskie, walleye, smallmouth bass, and northern pike. Tudhope Park is the main public Lake Simcoe access from Orillia; Couchiching Beach Park and Centennial Park anchor Lake Couchiching access.

Lake Simcoe's winter ice surface — accessed from Tudhope Park — is one of Ontario's largest sustained snowmobile and ice-fishing surfaces, and the FMZ 16 winter fishery anchors the season. Couchiching Beach Park carries a winter rink when conditions allow, and the Lightfoot Trail's flat surface stays walkable through the winter. Snowshoeing is informal at Tudhope Park and along the Lightfoot Trail rather than groomed.

The Stephen Leacock Museum National Historic Site at 50 Museum Drive on Old Brewery Bay preserves the 19-room lakeside summer home of humorist Stephen Leacock (1869–1944) on Lake Couchiching, designated a National Historic Site in 1992. The Champlain Monument anchors Couchiching Beach Park downtown, commemorating Samuel de Champlain's 1615 visit to the area. The Orillia Museum of Art and History occupies the 1895 Sir Sam Steele building on Mississaga Street downtown. The Mariposa Folk Festival has run annually since 1961 at Tudhope Park on the Lake Simcoe shore, anchoring an Orillia summer cultural calendar that pairs lakeside literature with live folk music.
