Rock Climbing.

The Niagara Glen Nature Reserve sits in the Niagara Gorge below the Niagara Parkway, reached by stairways from the Niagara Glen Nature Centre at 3050 Niagara Parkway. The blocks are dolomitic-limestone talus from the Niagara Escarpment, scattered through Carolinian forest at the base of the gorge.

Niagara Parks runs the bouldering programme — a permit system with online and in-person sales, and a stewardship contract with the climbing community.

Rock Climbing in Niagara Falls
01 — What to know

The brief.

Bouldering at the Glen requires a Niagara Parks bouldering permit and a signed waiver. Permits can be purchased online with up to 48 hours of processing, or in person at the Niagara Glen Nature Centre during seasonal hours (April through November) or year-round at the Butterfly Conservatory less than a kilometre down the Parkway.

Approach is via the Glen's stairways and trail network, which open sunrise to sunset only. Stay on marked trails — Niagara Parks has flagged unsanctioned "spider trails" as the principal threat to the bouldering access agreement, and damage to the Carolinian forest from off-trail use jeopardizes future access.

The Terrace and Whirlpool trail sections are seasonally closed for maintenance; check Niagara Parks before arriving.
