Walking & Strolling.
The Midland Rotary Waterfront Trail traces the Midland Bay shoreline through downtown, past Midland Town Dock and the harbourfront murals that anchor the heritage core on King Street. Across Highway 12 from downtown, the reconstructed mission grounds at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons trace the Wye River, and the terraced grounds at Martyrs' Shrine look down over the mission and the marsh below.
The brief.
Most of central Midland's walking is flat and concentrated on the Midland Bay shoreline ribbon between the Town Dock and the eastern boundary, where the Midland Rotary Waterfront Trail connects east into the Tay Shore Trail. The heritage grounds at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons and Martyrs' Shrine are walkable from the Highway 12 corridor on the south side of the bay; both sit adjacent to the Wye Marsh boardwalks and connect by short drive from downtown.
Little Lake Park, in central Midland, anchors a paved waterfront loop with the Huronia Museum and Huron / Ouendat Village on the same grounds. The Midland Rotary Waterfront Trail is open year-round; outdoor programming on the Sainte-Marie and Martyrs' Shrine grounds runs in the May-through-October window.
