Cycling.
The Georgian Trail runs 32 km from Meaford Harbour west to Collingwood on the former CN corridor, surfaced as crushed stone — the principal rail-trail spine of the south Georgian Bay shore. Layered around the same corridor, the Apple Pie Trail organizes a road and rail-trail loop linking Meaford with Thornbury and Clarksburg in The Blue Mountains and on into Collingwood through the orchard country above the bay.
The brief.
Meaford's cycling spine is the Georgian Trail rail trail, suitable for hybrid and gravel bikes on its crushed-stone surface, with road-cycling extensions on Highway 26 along the shoreline and on inland concession roads through orchard country. The Apple Pie Trail is the regional touring brand for the Collingwood–The Blue Mountains–Meaford corridor; cycling segments use both the Georgian Trail and signed road routes.
Best season runs May through October; shoulder seasons add fall colour through October. The CFB Meaford training area east of town blocks shoreline cycling east; westbound and inland is the practical direction out of Meaford.
