Sailing & Boating.
Mohawk Marina at Port Maitland sits at the mouth of the Grand River where it meets Lake Erie — the primary launch for Lake Erie boating off Haldimand County, with charter access for fishing and a sheltered Grand River entrance. Maitland Shore Marina runs adjacent on the Grand River side; Dunnville Harbour offers public launch into the lower Grand.
The brief.
Port Maitland is the deeper-water Lake Erie boating anchor for Haldimand — the marinas handle transient slips and seasonal storage, and the Grand River mouth gives sheltered entry from Lake Erie weather. Lake Erie is open and exposed beyond the Grand River mouth and the protective bar; storms can move quickly and small-craft routings should track the marine forecast.
Dunnville Harbour and the lower Grand offer sheltered river boating upstream of the dam. Boat fishing in the Lake Erie waters and the lower Grand is FMZ 16; navigation and harbour reporting follow Transport Canada / Canadian Coast Guard standards.
Sailing season runs May through October.
