Ruthven Park is the marquee heritage site — a Greek Revival mansion overlooking the Grand River, designated as a National Historic Site of Canada, with the Haldimand Bird Observatory operating banding programs on the property and seasonal demonstration days for visitors. Caledonia's heritage Old Mill and downtown Heritage Conservation District tell the lower-Grand industrial-era story; the Haldimand County Museum & Archives (Cayuga) is the county-history collection; the Wilson MacDonald Memorial School Museum (Selkirk) interprets twentieth-century rural Haldimand.

The county's name itself carries the Haldimand Proclamation of 1784 — the British Crown grant that set aside roughly 950,000 acres along the Grand River for the Six Nations of the Grand River, whose sovereign territory borders Haldimand to the north and whose ongoing land-rights story is itself a piece of regional context that visitors encounter at Caledonia and across the Grand. Most museums run May through October seasonal hours; confirm before visiting.
