Heritage & Culture.
Old Fort Erie National Historic Site, at the head of the Niagara River and operated by the Niagara Parks Commission, is the regional heritage anchor — a reconstructed War of 1812 fort and the site of the 1814 Siege of Fort Erie, one of the bloodiest engagements ever fought on Canadian soil. The Battle of Ridgeway National Historic Event commemorates a separate 1866 episode in town.
The brief.
Old Fort Erie operates seasonally with extended hours through summer; reconstruction and interpretive programming run alongside the original earthworks. Admission applies.
The Battle of Ridgeway site (Fenian Raids, 1866) is a quieter heritage stop in the Ridgeway community of Fort Erie — National Historic Event commemoration with limited interpretation on site. The Fort Erie Historical Museum, Town-operated, holds the local history collection; the Mildred M.
Mahoney Silver Jubilee Dolls' House Gallery is a Town-operated specialty museum. Point Abino Lighthouse is a National Historic Site on a private peninsula with limited public access — periodic Town-organized tours run in summer.
May through October is the full operating window for Old Fort Erie; museums run year-round on shorter winter hours.
