Hiking.
Fort Erie's hiking is flat shoreline and rail-trail walking — the town sits on lake-plain with no significant relief. The two long-form options are the Niagara River Recreation Trail along the Niagara Parkway and the Friendship Trail rail-trail running west to Port Colborne; both can be done as full out-and-back days or in shorter segments.
The brief.
The Niagara River Recreation Trail follows the Niagara Parkway from Old Fort Erie north toward Black Creek and ultimately Niagara-on-the-Lake — paved, flat, mostly riverside, with parking pull-offs along the parkway making segment hikes easy. The Friendship Trail handles the same role through the rail-trail corridor west into Ridgeway and Port Colborne.
Old Fort Erie's grounds, Mather Park, and the Bay Beach area at Crystal Beach add shorter walks. Spring through fall is the working season; the trails are walkable in winter when ploughed but icy stretches are common along the Niagara Parkway side.
There is no technical hiking — for backcountry trail miles, the Bruce Trail north of Niagara Escarpment country is the closer option.
