Cross-Country & Nordic.
The Tiffin Centre for Conservation grooms 11 km of looped trail through wetland, forest, meadow, and ancient lake bed for classic cross-country skiing and snowshoeing through the winter. The 15.6 km Thornton-Cookstown Trans Canada Trail adds a long flat rail-trail option for ski touring between the two villages, shared in winter with snowmobilers on the OFSC-connected corridor.
The brief.
Tiffin Centre is the township's main XC-ski destination — the 11 km network runs through varied habitat at NVCA headquarters in Utopia, with the Hawk and Maple Valley trails wheelchair accessible (and all-terrain wheelchairs available free with pre-arrangement). Trails are dawn-to-dusk and parking is $15 daily or $70 annual plus HST.
The Thornton-Cookstown Trans Canada Trail is a 15.6 km flat rail-trail corridor that doubles as an XC-ski option; in winter it is shared with snowmobilers on the OFSC trail system, so stay aware of the OFSC trail status before skiing. Best season is January through March; conditions track Simcoe County snowfall, which is steady through the winter.
Equipment rentals are not on-site at either trail — bring your own gear or rent in Barrie.
