Cycling.
The Thornton-Cookstown Trans Canada Trail runs 15.6 km on an abandoned rail corridor between the villages of Thornton and Cookstown, crossing Cookstown Creek along the way. The trailhead in Thornton is at Robert and William Streets; the trail is part of the Trans Canada Trail network and is shared with walkers, cross-country skiers, and snowmobilers in season.
The Tiffin Centre's 11 km of looped trail across wetland, forest, and meadow add a recreational gravel network at NVCA headquarters in Utopia.
The brief.
The Thornton-Cookstown Trans Canada Trail is mostly flat — a former rail corridor — and is the cycling anchor for the township; the surface is gravel and dirt typical of southern Ontario rail-trail conversions. The corridor connects southward to Cookstown and northward toward Barrie via municipal road segments.
At the Tiffin Centre, cycling shares the 11 km network with walkers and runners; surfaces are mixed dirt and grass, and the network is best ridden on a gravel or hardtail mountain bike rather than a road bike. May through October is the main season; the Thornton-Cookstown corridor stays accessible into shoulder season.
CFB Borden lies west of Angus and a user-mapped Trailforks region documents 15 trails on base land — access is conditional on Department of National Defence training and security posture and the trails are not promoted as a public destination.
