Hiking.
The Tiffin Centre for Conservation, the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority's headquarters property at 8195 8th Line in Utopia, runs 11 km of looped trails across 300+ acres of wetland, forest, meadow, and ancient lake bed. West of Angus, the Mad River Section of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail covers ~50.5 km from Angus through Glencairn toward Creemore and Glen Huron, where the Ganaraska Trail meets the Bruce Trail.
Inside Angus, the Pine River and Rippon trails link the riverside parks together along the Nottawasaga.
The brief.
Tiffin Centre is dawn-to-dusk year-round, with parking at $15 daily or $70 annual plus HST; the Hawk Trail and Maple Valley Trail are wheelchair accessible and all-terrain wheelchairs are available free of charge with pre-arrangement. The Utopia Conservation Area, a 50-acre property a short drive away, adds 2 km of accessible trail along Bear Creek, anchored by the historic Bell's Mill.
The Mad River Section of the Ganaraska is mostly flat with a few hills, suitable for beginners; the Essa portion runs west out of Angus following the Mad River, and the section continues through the New Lowell, Carruthers Memorial, and Glencairn Conservation Areas. May through October is the easiest window; Tiffin Centre and Utopia stay open through winter for snowshoeing and walking.
