Heritage & Culture.
The Wellington County Museum and Archives is a National Historic Site of Canada in the 1877 House of Industry on Wellington Road 18, between Fergus and Elora. The museum is the county's central heritage institution and the public-facing front of Wellington County Archives.
Downtown Fergus and downtown Elora carry two intact 19th-century limestone mill-town streetscapes a short drive west, and the Fergus Scottish Festival has run on Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex grounds annually since 1946.
The brief.
Most of the heritage cluster is walkable inside Fergus or inside Elora, with a short drive between the two and the Wellington County Museum sitting on the corridor between them on Wellington Road 18. The museum is county-run and runs full programming through the warmer months.
The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games is the headline annual event — pipe bands, heavy events, dancing — and is held mid-August on the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex grounds. Elora's downtown anchors on Mill Street and Metcalfe Street above the gorge edge; Fergus's downtown anchors on St.
Andrew Street above the Grand River dam. Both downtowns retain their 19th-century stone civic and commercial buildings.
