Hiking.

The SC Johnson Rail Trail's western trailhead is at Mohawk Park in east-end Brantford, and the trail runs 30 kilometres east on the former Lake Erie & Northern Railway corridor to Hamilton — Brantford is the western anchor, jointly managed with Brant County and Hamilton Conservation Authority. The Grand Valley Trail follows the Grand River through the city for additional long-distance route, and Apps' Mill Nature Centre adds short interpretive trails on Whiteman's Creek.

Hiking in Brantford
01 — What to know

The brief.

The SC Johnson Rail Trail is a paved/stonedust corridor with the original railway gradient, which makes it the easiest entry point to long-distance walking in Brantford. The Brantford trailhead at Mohawk Park is adjacent to Mohawk Chapel and Mohawk Lake; the trail leaves the park, crosses farmland and rural Brant County, and finishes at the Hamilton city edge.

The Grand Valley Trail crosses through Brantford on its way along the Grand River — long-distance hikers can access the city stretch from the urban riverfront. Apps' Mill Nature Centre is west of the city in County of Brant on Whiteman's Creek; the GRCA operates short interpretive nature trails through Carolinian woodlot, useful for shorter outings or family walks.

Best season is April through November.
