Cycling.

The SC Johnson Rail Trail is the cycling spine of the Brantford area — 30 kilometres of paved/stonedust rail trail from the Mohawk Park trailhead in Brantford east to Hamilton, on the original Lake Erie & Northern Railway grade. The Trans Canada Trail / Grand Valley cycling corridor passes through downtown along the river, giving riders a second long-distance option from the urban riverfront.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The SC Johnson Rail Trail's railway gradient is comfortable for less experienced riders and is e-bike friendly; motorized vehicles are prohibited. The Brantford trailhead is at Mohawk Park in the east end of the city, and the trail exits Brantford into rural Brant County before climbing toward Hamilton.

The Trans Canada Trail / Grand Valley corridor uses a mix of off-road and on-road segments through Brantford itself; signage along the river marks the route. Best season is April through November; the rail trail's surface holds up well in shoulder season.
