Hiking.
Eagle's Nest Park rises directly above downtown Bancroft off Hastings Street North, owned by the Town and maintained by the Stewards of Bancroft Eagle's Nest Park Inc. — five named trails range from a 263 m wheelchair-accessible Hawkwatch route to the 738 m Christy loop, all opening onto panoramic views over the York River Valley. Vance Farm Park adds a second 37-acre forested gravel network at the end of Oak Street.
The brief.
Eagle's Nest is open seasonally from the Victoria Day long weekend in May through the Thanksgiving long weekend in October; winter hiking is at the visitor's risk, especially on the Lookout (466 m, moderate) and Granite (113 m, difficult) trails where ice forms early. The five trails span the difficulty range — Hawkwatch Accessible at 263 m for any visitor, Christy at 738 m and the Gerry Whyte Plant Identification at 702 m (both moderate-to-difficult), Granite at 113 m short and steep.
Vance Farm Park's hilly forested gravel loops at the end of Oak Street are open year-round at moderate difficulty. The 156 km Hastings Heritage Trail runs through downtown Bancroft past the Municipal Office and the CN Rock Pile — free for hiking, walking, and jogging without a pass.
