Cross-Country & Nordic.
When snow conditions hold — typically January through March in good winters — the Hollidge Tract on Highway 48 and the Whitchurch Conservation Area in the town's north are the two main classic-track cross-country ski destinations on the Oak Ridges Moraine inside Whitchurch-Stouffville. The Oak Ridges Trail through both properties is informally tracked by skiers and ORTA volunteers when conditions permit.
The brief.
Southern Ontario snow is variable — some winters carry a deep, multi-week base; others see only intermittent skiable windows. Neither Hollidge nor Whitchurch CA is a paid groomed-track operation; both are unstaffed conservation/forest tracts where skiers track the trail as they go.
The Hollidge Tract main loop is gravel-surfaced and gentle, suitable for novices when there is snow; Whitchurch CA has more rolling moraine terrain. The Oak Ridges Trail Association posts informal trip reports during the season.
Snowshoeing is welcomed on both properties as well, but trail etiquette asks snowshoers to stay off any track-set ski lanes.
