Paddling — Flatwater.
Lake St. Lawrence between the Long Sault Parkway islands is sheltered Seaway pool — the islands break the wind and the inter-island channels open up day-route options for canoes and kayaks.
Designated boat launches on the parkway islands give put-in access, and the parkway drive itself becomes a launch-point picker.
The brief.
Lake St. Lawrence is the Seaway pool created in 1958 when the river was raised; the parkway-island water is the sheltered section, while the open Seaway navigation channel runs further offshore and carries shipping.
Afternoon winds on the pool can pick up from light morning conditions to whitecap-by-late-afternoon, especially through long fetches between islands; canoeists should plan around morning launch windows. Bring a printed parkway map — the launch points are posted on each island but inter-island distances are easier to plan from a map.
