Wildlife Viewing.

The Highway 60 Corridor is the standard Ontario moose-spotting drive — late April through early June, when moose come to roadside salt pools — and the eastern arrival is in Whitney through the East Gate at km 55.8. The Algonquin Park Public Wolf Howl program runs Thursday evenings in August from venues on the Park's east side accessed through the township; the howl is one of the longer-running interpretive programs in Canadian park interpretation.

01 — What to know

The brief.

Moose viewing along Highway 60 is most reliable from late April through early June, when moose are drawn to roadside salt left over from winter road maintenance. Pull off the road safely; do not approach.

The Public Wolf Howl is conducted only on conditions — staff confirm a wolf pack within calling distance the day-of, and the program is announced or cancelled on Thursday afternoons. Black bear are present in shield-and-wetland habitat throughout the township and the Park; standard bear-aware practice applies (no food in tents; locked storage in vehicles or designated boxes at frontcountry campgrounds).

Bald eagle viewing along the Madawaska River corridor is incidental rather than scheduled. A daily Park vehicle permit is required for any Park-side viewing through the East Gate.
